Tax Day TEA Party - San Angelo TX
Although the Tax Day TEA Parties were a huge deal, and they were, despite the media’s complete lack of journalistic integrity, I can’t help thinking that we have no solid game plan, going forward. Where do we go from here? Are we ready to march on Washington D.C., on July 4th? Are we planning anything just prior to Election Day?
For conservatives to have gathered in such large numbers, across the country, it took massive amounts of motivation. I don’t want that to go to waste! And, although I don’t know of any specific, larger-scale upcoming events, my current desire to participate is still at an all-time high!
On a side note, one thing that liberals need to know is that, when conservatives take to the streets, it’s a pretty reliable sign that the Country is headed down a bad, bad road. To any left-leaning fence sitters reading this, you may want to put your Obamagasm on hold, just for a moment, to think about what this really means.
Back to my point, I think there is much work to be done, if we’re really going to make a difference. We’ve been sitting on our couches for so long that we don’t see what we, ourselves, have become. How often do you talk to your neighbor? How often do you walk through your neighborhood? Am I guilty of this? Certainly! Out my front door, I can see about twenty-five other houses. I know the names of the neighbors on either side of my house, but I don’t know a single name of anyone living in the other twenty-three houses!
The media has done an excellent job in making us feel like we’re alone. The truth is that we’re really not alone. Staying informed, by watching TV news, reading the paper or surfing the web, is all well and good, but we really need to interact more with actual people.
With summer fast-approaching, it’s the perfect time to host a small gathering of your own. Yes, you too can be a community organizer! These parties don’t need to be anything extravagant. Have a BBQ. Burgers and dogs and a few cold beverages are just fine. Have the guest bring their favorite dish! Invite your neighbors, not just your friends and family. Talk to them. Get to know them. My guess is that you’ll find more in common than you might expect.
I’m having visions of red and white plastic table cloths, men with shorts and dark socks, women talking with each other about their recipes and kids running in the yard. Ahh, the olden days.
At these more personal gatherings, find out how informed and involved everyone is. Let them know that it’s OK for them to voice their opinions. You can even let everyone know that there’s a specific purpose to your event, in addition to getting to know your neighbors!
The whole idea behind this is to start small. There aren’t many billionaires out there that have said to themselves “tomorrow I’m going to be a billionaire”. That may have been their eventual goal, but they knew they would have to take the small steps to make that goal a reality.
I’m going to post this blog entry to a few other conservative websites that I operate. Be sure to leave your comments wherever you see it!
